Hi All,
This little guide is to make the life easier for the new windows users on Ubuntu world…
Installation:
Get your liveCD on http://www.ubuntu.com/ and follow the installation till the end.
Once your Ubuntu installation is ready let’s starting tunning your Ubuntu to make it looks like a windows box.
- Open the Termina on the top left ( Applications->Acessories->Terminal)
- Login as admininstrator, type:
sudo su
once it prompts for the password use the one you choosed when you installed the system.
At this point you should see something like root@username-desktop ..
1 – Update your packages to the latest version, type:
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
once is finished you’ll be up to the latest version and packages.
Installing Microsoft fonts:
type on the terminal:
apt-get install msttcorefonts
Installing Messenger( Very similar to MSN ):
apt-get install amsn
View on the desktop My PC, documents, Recicle Bin, Network:
press ALT+F2 then type
in the box at the top next to the 3 cogs/gears
press enter, now gconf-editor should show up, in the tree view on the left go apps>nautilus>desktop
check the boxes: computer_icon _isible, home_icon_visible, network_icon_visible and trash_icon_visible
Install Emule for download files:
type:
apt-get install amule
That’s it!! You should have now a machine identical to a windows version without need of stupid antivirus or crap Internet Explorer full of bugs and a open door for exploiters…
